The Hobbit - "There and Back Again" edition
The front appears to be the "book that started it all"-
Tolkien's "The Hobbit", masterfully designed by artist
Wes Talbott (www.westalbott.com). Central to the design, we have "The Hobbit" as a palindrome (a word that
looks the same forwards, backwards and upside down) complete with a shiny gold ring in the center. It's highlighted in gold and white pearl. The pearl extends around the whole design,
bordering on one end a view of Bag End, Bilbo Baggins' home. It is colors mainly in block coloring, but it is also
highlighted in metallic brown, green and blue. Flip the design around and you have the ferocious Smaug, a dragon
guarding its treasure! Highlighted with metallic reds and atop
glittering gold, the wonderful crisp illustration draws in the eye. Framing the whole design we have gorgeous intricate knotwork- impressive enough for the Dwarves themselves to have constructed!
Each corner has a word from "There and Back Again". I'm extremely proud to add this to my collection and bring forth Wes' vision of the Hobbit to life and those whom love the book.
The spine is simple but fitting- the stunning palindrome in gold and pearl.
The back is particularly cool- its Thorin's map back to the Lonely Mountain.
This is an absolutely wonderful
piece for any fan of literature, Tolkien or the Lord of the Rings.
Would make a great gift for yourself or for someone else!
Size - Whole box, outside:
